Day 30: Kirksville, MO to Quincy, IL

Distance: 76.25 miles

Elevation gain: 2,258 feet

Avg speed: 13.6 mph

Max speed: 32.2 mph

Moving time: 5:35:32

Today was a tough day for me. Not because of today’s route though - today’s route actually wasn’t too bad. No, today was a tough day because I just didn’t feel that great when I got up. Fortunately, it’s only the second time it happened to me on this trip, but that doesn’t really make it any easier.

When I got up, my legs felt heavy and tired. And sore - did I mention sore? Add to that the fact that my tummy felt off, and you’ve got a recipe for riding in the support vehicle. Completing this trip in its entirety is something I really want to accomplish though, so to ME that was not an option. So I decided to tough it out, and I’m glad I did! Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day though, as tomorrow is one of the century rides on this trip.

Today we rode across our seventh state line into Illinois. That was SO much more satisfying on my bike, so I’m glad I decided to push through this morning.

Long before reaching that state line though, we hit the 2,000-mile mark on our journey, which of course came with its usual photo opportunity.

Of course, we should start with the beginning. And at the beginning were more of those infamous “rollers” that I will forever think of when I think of Missouri:

We also passed some interesting sculptures:

Thanks to Alena and Steve, I was able to get some action shots of myself from today:

Also, I got some great images from our bridge crossing, thanks to some of the other members in our group:

And, of course, another sign that made it look like we’re farther east than we actually are:

And, of course, what is one of my blog posts without a link to the day’s video:

Tomorrow is yet another big day. We will be riding 106.2 miles from Quincy to Springfield, supposedly with 2,308 feet of climbing. Well, as usual, it’s getting late, so I’ll catch you tomorrow!
